The exhibition Socialism and Modernity brings a part of achievements in visual art, architecture, graphic and product design, as well as the products of popular culture from the period 1950 – 1974.
It aims to explain the nature of the connection between the process of post-war modernisation, modernism, and modernity within the cultural and political practice of Croatian/Yugoslav socialist society.
In that respect, the selected exhibits – artworks as well as everyday objects – have not been included into the exhibition setup to illustrate particular aesthetic choices or to document the quality of the post-war design, but as a proponents of different, often conflicting ideas and projections of reality defining social function of art, architecture, and design in the post-war society, as well as their role and the position within the modernization processes.
